PRE-GATHERING EVENT INFORMATION
International Indigenous Culture and Arts Festival at Waimea Valley
When you pick up your packets at the registration desk, be sure you have your tickets for the Festival, which you will get only if you have signed up for this event. The registration desk opens Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 8:00am - 4:00pm. You may add guests (up to four) at $40.00 per person (round-trip transportation, lunch scrip) by signing them up at the Registration desk.
Buses leave Waikīkī at 8:00am. Please check your shuttle bus schedule to see if the bus stops at or near your hotel. The maps are online and inside the cover of your conference program.
Opening Ceremony at Kualoa
The drumming ceremony and arrival by voyaging canoes will commence at 10:00am. Traditional dress is appropriate for the official opening when you are with the rest of your delegation. There will be a Kupuna tent, food booths, music, cultural presentations and demonstrations throughout the day.
Buses leave Waikīkī beginning at 7:30am.
You must pick up your meal tickets with your registration packet. If you want to add guests (up to four) you may pay for them at the registration table ($50.00 per person).
For those able to get out to Kualoa earlier in the morning, a sunrise greeting will be chanted just before dawn.

Early birds can join us on September 2, 2010
Touchdown in Hawai‘i! You can be a Warrior for a night as you and 40,000 of your Warrior friends open up the UH football season against the Trojans of Southern California. Begin in the parking lot of Aloha Stadium for a good-times tailgate party full of barbecue, burgers and soft beverages. Once inside the stadium, we sit together to cheer on our favorite team,, pumped up for the rest of the week.

In two short weeks the Hawaiian community will begins our welcomes as the first of more than 2,000 people from Indigenous communities around the globe arrive into Honolulu.
Updated information on transportation has been posted. If you'll be seeking a ride from Honolulu Airport to Waikiki, or vice versa, check here for more information.

We in Hawai'i are so looking forward to welcoming the thousands of participants to HOSW 2010 in a few short weeks.
A few deadline reminders:
- * Groups. If you registered a group earlier, now is the time for the group contact to submit the names and completed applications for all members of the group by July 31.
- * Credit card payment. Registration may stay open, but credit card payments may be made through July 31. After that, certified checks will be welcomed.
- * Choral festival. Groups planning to participate in the choral festival shall submit their list of songs by July 31.
Volunteers are welcomed! Your time & talents would be so helpful.
Kama'aina rates exist. The code is 'kamaaina.'

FIRST NATIONS CHIEF SHAWN A-IN-CHUT ATLEO TO SPEAK IN SEPTEMBER
It's Our Time to Fulfill our Rightful Place as Indigenous Nations
Healing Our Spirit Worldwide 2010 is pleased to announce that National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, Ahousaht First Nation of Canada, will address HOSW 2010 in plenary session this September. His topic is It's Our Time to Fulfill our Rightful Place as Indigenous Nations, and he will include thoughts on education, languages, physical and mental wellness, Canada's residential schools, environment, housing, healing, research, culture and tradition. He will be addressing the United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples, spending time on honoring treaties.
Chief Shawn is an hereditary chief, serving two terms as regional chief for the Assmbly of First nations (AFN). He holds a masters degree in education and when appointed chancellor of Vancouver Island University in 2008, became British Columbia's first Indigenous chancellor.

As at previous Gatherings of Healing Our Spirit Worldwide, the Sixth Gathering will feature a track for youth, ages 13-24 years. This track will offer activities and together time for young people, cultural presentations and opportunities to support the plenery sessions, too.
We have our own website developed just for the 'Opio, Youth, featuring the schedule, list of activities and youth involved with developing the Youth track. Keep checking here it for the most up-to-date information.

Waimea Valley Park on Saturday, September 4, 2010
Before the opening sessions, HOSW will welcome all registered attendees to Waimea Valley Park for the International Indigenous Healing Festival on Saturday, September 4th.
Waimea is a historic valley with many cultural and botanic resources. There will be arts and craft demonstrations, food booths, vendors, musical demonstrations and a powwow in the upper meadow.

Shipping and handling of all merchandise and/or art pieces is the sole responsibility of the vendor. The vendor will also assume the responsibility for clearing customs and complying with other regulations that apply to interisland, US continental and/or international shipping. Your local contacts will be HOSW, the Hawai'i Convention Center, and International Convention and Event Services (ICES).

GRANTS FOR ARTISTS TO ATTEND HOSW
Native Creative Development Program grants - submit letter of inquiry by April 1, 2010
Artists interested in attending HOSW 2010 can submit a letter of inquiry into this Native Creative Development Program for support to attend. Eligibility includes presentations in visual, performance and literary arts. Once notified of award on or about September 7, 2010, the grant will reimburse grantee for expenses already incurred.

Presentations may include wise practices, program successes, traditional and cultural programming and research in health, healing, addictions and self determination. We also seek traditional sharing via cultural workshops or demonstrations, visual and performing arts.
Whatever your area of expertise or talent that you plan to share, an abstract must be submitted. For your convenience and a conscious effort to reduce paper use, abstracts may be submitted online. We look forward to hearing from you!
