Sharing Sessions The goal is to feature community-based programs, initiatives and research created by, and with Indigenous peoples that address the HOSW Covenant. Topic areas include: • Alcohol, Drugs and other addictions • Community Healing • Cultural Healing Practices • Education, Training and Capacity Building • Environment, Health and Stewardship • Elders and Traditional Teaching • Health Promotion and Disease Prevention • Historical Trauma and Cultural Oppression • Indigenous-lead Research • Leadership, Self Determination and Governance • Traditional Medicine and Practices • Traditional Spirituality • Youth Programs • Violence • Other
Presentation Formats Presentations include wise practices, program successes, traditional and cultural programming and research in health, healing, addictions and self determination. • Individual Oral presentations - 20 minutes long and 10 minutes for questions and answers. • Joint presentations (not more than 2 presenters)- 20 minutes long and 10 minutes for questions and answers. • Posters will be displayed and time will be scheduled for participants to meet and talk with poster presenters. • Round Table discussions are presentations and discussions with 10 – 12 people per table. NO electronic support will be provided for the round tables. Select this option to foster greater discussion in a small group format. Rooms will have the capacity for electronic presentations (i.e. PowerPoint) and video, upon request. Electronic copies of all presentations and handouts will be required in advance of the Gathering; your handouts will be available at your session. Cultural workshops or demonstrations These activities include workshops and demonstrations of cultural traditions in health, healing, addictions and self determination. • Workshops and demonstrations will be 90 – 120 minutes (1 ½ to 2 hours) • May include workshops and demonstrations on traditional healing, chanting, traditional crafts, and more. Performing Arts These activities include both traditional and modern indigenous performing arts such as music, dance, storytelling, poetry, and more. Visual Arts There will be multiple venues for visual arts including fine arts, crafts, and films. • Film festival – Indigenous films will be shown throughout the Gathering • Fine arts and craft will be displayed at the convention site
